"If everything is within nature, or a natural cosmos, then miracles and seemingly supernatural powers are not unearthly, even though they are certainly divinely inspired. Such powers and graces and gifts do not need a source beyond the natural. The emanations of reality and orders of existence from God supply us with all the energy we need to create the so-called supernatural effects known to history."

"The cosmic model of nature in semiotics contains two aspects: the semiotic, the presemiotic. That is, there is a realm of meaning, sign and interpretation, and also a realm prior to this, a kind of ‘underconscious of nature’ where signs are not yet formed and divulged. This is naturalism that accepts nature and spirit as the only precategories and in particular sees nature as containing elements of self-transcendence; as naturalism it denies any form of the supernatural, but reinterprets the supernatural into orders within nature’s ecstatic self-transcendence."

2018 INTERVIEW: Author Chris Bennett

"Hermeticists listen to – and now and then hear – the beating of the heart of the spiritual life of humanity. They cannot do otherwise than live as guardians of the life and communal soul of religion, science and art. They do not have any privilege in any of these domains; saints, true scientists, and artists of genius are their spiritual superiors. But they live for the mystery of the communal heart which beats within all religions, all philosophies, all arts and all sciences – past, present and future."

My playing of music, composing and songwriting happened in grad school and grew out of my love of exotic instruments from uilleann pipes, to lutes and other instruments of Ireland, the European Renaissance and the Balkans and Near East.

Most of my albums are available under the stage name DAMANTA, an old Irish (Gaeilge) word used on Inis Mor (where I lived) as the supreme superlative; it could also mean, deadly or awesome in that sense.

You can also find me on Spotify or iTunes and Amazon.
