Explore the hidden language behind masterpieces in art and in nature.

"Mathematics is the language of the universe."
-- Galileo Galilei

In this course, we'll look at the mysterious patterns that appear all around us (and inside us!) when we take a minute to observe things carefully.

Mathematicians have discovered order in a world that seems full of chaos

Artists have used those discoveries to create beautiful masterpieces.

Scientists have taken those discoveries further and used them to develop complex machines that improve our way of life.

And now we can have fun exploring this hidden language of the universe and create our own Math Art masterpieces!

This course covers:

  • Fractals
  • Tessellations & Symmetry
  • Phi: The Most Magnificent Number in the Universe!
  • Fibonacci Numbers

Each class is composed of a video lesson (about 25 - 45 minutes long) and an accompanying workbook of printable activities and resources.

Printable Resources

Each lesson comes with a packet of resources (about 20 pages, including printer-friendly versions) to use during and after the class.

Note-taking pages

Each packet includes pages with the class outline and note-taking space for following along during the video lesson.

Journal Pages

Students are encouraged to go on nature walks to explore their world and look for the topics covered in each class. Journal pages provide prompts for writing and sketching.

Math Art instructions

Each class comes with instructions for creating your own Math Art masterpiece based on the current class topic.

Writing Practice

Each packet includes a relevant quote or poem; one page provides handwriting practice and a second page provides writing prompts to help students dig deeper into the topic.

Bingo Board

This bingo-style game board gives students the opportunity to explore each topic in a variety of ways as they work their way through the course.

"Dive Deeper" resource lists

Each packet includes recommended resources for diving deeper into the class topic. You will find links and references to books, websites, videos, and activities.

    Who is this course for?

This course is perfect for all ages!

I've built the classes around concepts and activities I taught in high school Geometry classes, but young kids could also enjoy, understand, and participate in almost everything here.

    Built-in differentiation:
All activities can be done on whatever level kids (or adults :) ) are at. You'll find resources for books and videos and activities at the end of each printable pack for a range of ages as well.

The main goal of the course is to help kids of all ages:

    • see Math outside the [textbook] box,
    • understand the patterns and mathematical precision of the world around us, and
    • enjoy learning to think Mathematically.

    -- Jamie P.

"My daughter loves art, but isn't too thrilled with Math. I knew they could go together, but just had a hard time doing it myself. I am so excited about these classes! She really enjoyed the first class, and is excited to do the next one!"

"Thank you so much for the video! We really enjoyed it. Everyone (11yo, 9yo, 7yo and two adults) were all totally engrossed and engaged. We each learned something(s) new as well! And it encouraged some lovely conversation too. Thank you!"
