Courtney is a straight A college student, which is a noble achievement. Itā€™s not easy to ace all your classes at that level, especially philosophy. Especially when the philosophy professor is a gorgeous hunk, and she cannot keep her mind on anything except letting him take herā€¦for her first time. And she has another dream. More of a wantā€¦a need. All Courtney wants is a baby. If Dean Adam Winters would just notice her, she knows she could get him to make love to her and create a beautiful child with her. Thereā€™s just one problem that Courtney can seeā€¦heā€™s already dating one of the other college professors, Ms. Stevenson ā€“ Bethany.

Bethanyā€™s idea of a man is someone powerful and good-looking who makes good money. Thatā€™s all. She doesnā€™t need doting attention or fatal attractionā€¦or even love. If he checks all her boxes, he can check her box. Butā€¦there better be a ring at the end of it.

Adam is satisfied with his relationship with Bethany. No ties, no troubles, no promises. Orā€¦thatā€™s the way he sees it. He is not the marrying type. As Dean of the university, he is far too busyā€¦and important to have a deep relationship. Or God-forbid, a wife! No, not him. But thereā€™s this girlā€¦womanā€¦in his philosophy class that he cannot get off his mind. He even imagines her face when heā€™s making love to Bethany. Butā€¦sheā€™s so young. And a student! That is so taboo Adam cannot even think about it, so he just puts Courtney Zimmerman out of his mind. But somehow, she keeps slipping back in.

Dean Adam Winters is very powerful, but he is keeping secrets from the world. He and Bethany think they are hiding their relationship, but it is apparent to anyone who is watching them. Will Courtney get her way with Dean Winters? If she does, this would be another secret he would have to keepā€¦from everyone. And maybe Courtney has a secret of her own.

Stella is a character. Quite a character, or thatā€™ what Bill used to tell her. Before he died. Now, homeless and broke, the 40-something artist needs to start all over again. She raised Billā€™s kid since the boy was twelve, but he took off the day he turned eighteen, and Stella has not seen him since. But this is still his home, if he wants it. The one thing for shit-sure, itā€™s not Stellaā€™s home. Not anymore. After she leaves the little farm outside of Oakville, Ontario, Stella decides to return to the city that helped her become an artist ā€“ Toronto. Glen might be able to get some of her paintings into this gallery ā€“ if she had any. Sheā€™s got to find some place to hunker down for a while so she can set up her studio again. Then, after sheā€™s sold a couple, it will smooth sailing right on ā€˜til destiny throws another loop at her.

Arriving in Toronto in the early hours of the morning, Stella is deep in thought, pondering her first move now that sheā€™s back in the big city. Sheā€™s so engrossed in her reflection that sheā€™s too late when she finally notices the light turning red at the intersection. Gunning it, she decides to peel through, after all, who would be out on the streets at three oā€™clock in the morning? When she hears a thump, she realizes someone must have been out. Stella has run over a man.

Registering that his leg is broken, and badly, Stellaā€™s guilt leads her to drive him to Emergency. Then wait for him. Thenā€¦take him home. Where she plans on looking after him until he can healā€¦and she can paint a few best-sellers. But the man takes a little convincing.

Phillip is a sports reporter. Never wanted to be anything else. Heā€™s tall and athletic, and stoic and quiet. He loves his aging mother dearly and takes her to church every Sunday, never misses a one, even if he has to work all night. He takes his mother to church and breakfast, even if there was a game the night before. Even if heā€™s had no sleep and has smoked an entire pack of Players, he still gets dressed up and picks Mom up for church. He loves her. And he loves God even more. He loves God, but he doesnā€™t think of himself as a church-fanatic, this is just the way he was raised. Heā€™d love to go on a retreat one year, but right now, his church only offers that for couples. Andā€¦Phillip is single. There was a woman in his life once, early on, right after University. But when he found her in bed with not one, but two of his good friends only weeks before they were to be married, Phillip swore off women for the rest of his life. Sure, itā€™s been difficult, but he has his job and his love of sports to keep his mind busy. And church and Mom take up a lot of his time.

The morning he decided to pick up his dry-cleaning right after reporting the late hockey game and after party, he also chooses to run across the street before the light has completely changed. Who else would be out this early in the morning? Theyā€™ve got to be crazy. Like him.

Pain is searing through his leg as he lies in the street, having just been hit by a speeding car that he didnā€™t even see. Then a hand touches his shoulder, and he rolls his head back to look up into the eyes of what must be an angel, there to take him to heaven. What else could she be? Sheā€™sā€¦beautiful.

Phillip has no idea what heā€™s in for when he agrees to allow Stella to care for him while his broken leg mends. The pushy woman, who looks to be five years his junior ,starts by telling him what to do, in his own house! Thenā€¦she cleans it! Phillip does not care how good looking he thinks Stella is, sheā€™s a woman. And that means, sheā€™s bad news. And not the kind he likes to report.
