Get Inspired

I was looking for an inspiring story to share with you and taught maybe my own story might inspire you.

I recently graduated from Liberty University with a Master's Degree in Strategic Communications. I went back to school for personal career reasons but also to be able to offer more to our many Guso customers.

Upon graduating I couldn't help but remember how far I've come by grace.

At the age of 2 years old, I got sick with polio disease and the end result was that it left me unable to stand or walk. This also affected my ability to go to school. I was only able to start school after my father returned back from the United States to my native country with a wheelchair.

Eventually, I came to the United States at the age of 11 and was told that I was being moved to the proper grade I should have been in. Back in my country, I was in the 3rd grade but now, here in the United States, I was being put in the 6th grade. My parents at this time were advised to allow me to be put in special education to help me cope with the change of grade and the new environment and to be able to get help moving around because of my disability. It would soon become evident that I didn't need special education so my parents started requesting to have me in regular classes. Eventually, I started attending normal classes in high school by the 9th grade.

To make a long story short, I faced many challenges especially because of my inability to walk including living on the 5th floor of a building that had an elevator that was broken more days than it was functional. I would go to school and when I came back home, wait in the lobby of the building for my father to come back from work to lift me up 5 flights of steps to our apartment. This would be whenever my mother was not around or unable to bring me up. It wasn't easy and I remember begging my parents at times to please allow me to stay home on days like these, but they would always insist that I must go to school.

The road was not easy but eventually, with the help of God, I graduated from high school with a scholarship from The New York Urban League and The United Federation of Teachers. I went on to college at Rider University where I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business and Advertising. Recently I went back to school for my master's degree and graduated in May 2019 with a master's degree.

I got this degree while being a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and more. There is nothing you can not do with the help of God, the love and support of your family and friends.

Whatever your challenge, don't let it stop you! Don't let it define you! Don't wait another minute, so make up your mind today, and take the next step to improve and add more value to your life.
