This lecture provides a practical overview of chronic pain management in cats, focusing on the high incidence of persistent pain in older patients, such as osteoarthritis and dental disease. Dr Sam Taylor will guide veterinarians through the latest recommendations from the 2024 ISFM and AAFP guidelines, addressing the multifaceted nature of chronic pain and the importance of a multimodal approach.

Discussion will encompass a range of therapeutic options, including pharmacologic choices (NSAIDs, adjunct analgesics, nutraceuticals), non-drug modalities (weight management, physiotherapy, environmental modification), and the role of tailored pain assessment protocols. While NSAIDs like robenacoxib remain a cornerstone, the session will objectively review all available molecules and their suitability for cats with comorbidities, alongside alternative and complementary strategies.
