CANADA AND U.S. MOVE TO T+1
On February 3, 2022 the Canadian Securities Administrators announced their support of the industry’s plan to accelerate settlement to T+1. The CSA views a shorter settlement cycle as reducing settlement risk and improving operational efficiencies for the industry. Maintaining alignment with the U.S. industry was another key consideration cited by the CSA. The CSA will next consider whether to recommend amendments to national instruments or other regulatory provisions to transition to T+1.
The IIAC is working with the Canadian Capital Markets Association in preparing for Canada’s move to T+1.
