As dog owners, we have the responsibilities to take care and nurture our furry friends.

But what do we do when they just won't listen to us? Leave them be...or discipline them to be obedient towards to their owner?

I don't know about you but I would choose the latter. As much I love them, a healthy boundary is a must.

Let's look at the reasons why they are acting the way they are and find out what are some of the solutions to this problem.

Why do dogs behave differently

According to dog experts, the way dogs are being brought up affects how they behave at their grown-up stage. They need guidance on how to behave from a young age so they won't cause huge headaches for their owners.

 1. Lack of training

Dogs are mammals and the way they learn is no different than humans. Just like humans, they need regular training as well as nurturing to grow up well and balanced.

The lack of training will cause behavioral problems and that is the number one problem faced by dog owners. We certainly don't know how dogs think or feel.

This is why we, as dog owners, will have to step up as responsible owners to give them the guidance they need. Whether it is emotional or physical, these furry friends are counting on you!

2. Not giving them treats

Mammal brains are wired to respond to external stimuli. If you are not giving treats to your dogs, you need to step up your game. Dogs learn how to behave through operant conditioning.

This is how it works. When dogs perform a given task well, and the owner rewards them by giving treats. They are being taught that the behavior is favorable and they should continue doing it.

Operant conditioning is certainly what dog owners should apply in their dog training activities. It is how dogs learn.

3. Neglecting them physically

Believe it or not, dogs have emotions too. Yes, they do! Have you ever seen your dog giving you reactions? Emotions are often expressed through body languages.

Neglecting your dog physically is a subtle way of ignoring your dog's emotional needs. And it can cause them to feel anxious or depressed.

Dogs with emotional imbalance tend to behave on their own. Until their emotional needs are met, they will carry on throwing tantrums all over the place.

4. Rarely socializing with other dogs

What does this have to do with obedience? Well...walks in the park release excessive energy which is building up within your dog. This makes them more calm and collected.

Just like humans need exercise to release toxins, dogs need walks and socializing to release tension buildup. It is quite depressing to stay at home and not going out for a fresh air, isn't it?

All those tension needs to be released for a healthier emotional and physical development. Plus, who knows they might make some friends during the walk :)

How to make your dog obedient

First things first, you have to teach them how to behave by engaging with operant conditioning. This will teach them what behaviors are acceptable and what aren't.

Rest assured... it is not going to hurt them by any means. Simply reward them with treats when they behave the way you want them to. This will improve their behaviors significantly if repeated regularly.

The second thing is to regularly give them some sort of reward every time they behave greatly. This will strengthen the conditioning instilled upon them.

After a while, the rewarded behaviors will become your dog's second nature. They will listen and obey your instructions in a calm and collected manner. How great is that!

Last but not least, try to understand your dog better. If you don't already know, every dog is different. Each of them will need specific training and nurturing.

Taking care of your furry friends with care and love is your number one priority. Once you shower them with your love, they will give you their undivided attention.
