Chrysalis Nature Training
Chrysalis Nature Training is owned and managed by Monica Maroun and Dr Deborah Robertson-Andersson.
We specialise in terrestrial and marine ecology educational excursions for learners of all ages.
Monica has been an educator since 1990, organising, managing and running environmental education and adventure excursions for primary school children, high school children and university students.
Monica qualified as a nature guide in 2011 and has been teaching nature guides since 2012.
Deborah is a Marine Biologist. She specialises in making science understandable to anyone from the very young to the very old.
Together this dynamic duo make the perfect surf and turf ecology educational experience.
This rustic camping and self-catering venue surrounded by indigenous forests, is renowned for it's warm hospitality and environmentally conscious heart since 1999.
Yellowwood is the ideal venue for nature based studies and fun activities. Less than an hours drive (84Km) from East London, on the Wild Coast.
We are ideally located for access to a diverse range of ecosystems. We have the forest, river, grassland and marine ecosystems all on our doorstep.
Our facilities include:
A rustic camping venue with self-catering accommodation and a tea garden onsite.
Dormitory accommodation for up to 14 people. Our dormitory has a separated teacher's room.
Cottages with 2 rooms for teachers to share.
We also have plenty of space to put up tents, bring your own, or let us provide for you.
With the combination of the Chrysalis excursion and Ecology focused field trip experience and Yellowwood Forest's unique fully catered accommodation offering this is the perfect combination for a nature-based field trip.

Rocky Shores
A walk on the rocks collecting treasures, classifying and creating food webs with our collections.
This workshop covers plant succession, an introduction to identification keys and the importance of sand dunes and sandy shores.

We use kayaks to explore the ecology and species diversity of the saltmarsh, estuary and mangroves of the Great Kei River
In this workshop we conduct a river health assessment (Mini SASS) by looking for plants and animals in and around the water. There is also opportunity for some swimming fun.
This workshop is adapted to the age of the participants. We start with the basics of leaf types and bark textures. The intermediate and advanced versions deal with forest succession, conservation and tree identification keys.
Workshops focusing on current and local conservation issues such as:
Workshops starting with introducing invasive alien plants and their effect on the environment, to how to monitor and manage invasives.
Experience nature close-up. Kayaking Adventures at Double Mouth, Morgan Bay or the Great Kei River
For the adventurous at heart! Abseil down the cliffs that plunge into the ocean!
A horse riding adventure for all skill levels. Take a gentle stroll on the beach
Arrive strangers leave friends. A unique, authentic experience of life in an african village.
