We are welcoming Afghan refugees to Texas next week! Among those are at least 200 children.
We created a contextualized coloring book to welcome refugees to the United States. Coloring is a proven therapeutic activity that aids in the trauma-healing process.
Help us welcome these Afghan children with this creative, inclusive activity!
$5 for 1 coloring book
This book features an Afghan character named Khadija. Children can color in relevant places that a refugee might see in the United States. The book also provides space for children to write the titles of each scene in their own language.
We need coloring pencils & pencil sharpeners!
Check out our Amazon Wish List to donate coloring supplies.
Our goal is to distribute
200 coloring books
& 200 packages of coloring pencils / pencil sharpeners
Why a coloring book?
Refugees suffer from conflict-related trauma, which severely harms their mental health and stalls the learning process. Coloring is a therapeutic activity that is proven to aid in the trauma healing process.
Our coloring books are culturally sensitive to promote diversity and inclusive learning. We conduct in-depth research to ensure proper representation of each culture.
Marginalized children have very few educational or creative activities. We provide a platform for creativity to ensure children have the opportunity to express themselves.
This is the first time I have seen a cartoon that looks like my people! Now I can color it in however I like. Thank you!
"Every child deserves education wherever they come from. I really love how Books Unbound is trying to relate their culture and daily activities in the form of art. This supports children so they realize and learn their own culture."
