This year, as of July 16th marks 10 years since Donna Middleton began Head to Tail Canine Nutrition, and to celebrate, we’re giving away a signed copy of The Herbal Dog by Rita Hogan — a kindred spirit now turned Western Holistic Herbalist.
When Donna started, there was no one else in Manitoba doing what she was doing. She faced doubt, criticism, and plenty of voices telling her it wasn’t worth the effort. But she believed in something deeper, that food could be medicine, and animals deserved better. So she left her restaurant job and followed the path that felt right.
She spent years educating pet parents on species-appropriate diets, with a focus on endocrine health, cancer support, and gentle, natural alternatives. She never wanted to fix with needles and knives; she wanted to help from the inside out.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been meaningful. And she’ll be the first to say: she couldn’t have done it alone.

From loyal clients to curious pet parents, from fellow practitioners to the unexpected encounters — like a consult with a medicinal mushroom grower — this journey has been built on community, trust, and love.
