What is photo mining?

• a way to look at your reference photos with new eyes
• a way to see the possibilities present in the photo for different interpretations
• allows you to delve deep into the subject and use your imagination
• shows you that your first idea will usually be the most obvious, and often the least interesting one!
• is a process through which you will begin to really learn what it is YOU are interested in
• can be the beginning of a series of work based on that subject, rather than a one time use of a reference

As a creative artist you don't want to settle for reproducing a photograph, but rather you want to compose a meaningful personal statement - an expression of your heart that says something about who you are, what matters to you, and how you choose to see the world ❤️

What you will learn:

• solid stepping stones to find YOUR story in your reference photos, tapping into the feelings you had that made you want to take the photo in the first place
• ways to simplify your reference and use the information in it as a guide rather than a constraint
• more than a crop, you will have the freedom to move things around, resize or eliminate the unnecessary
• to create a compelling, simplified design ROAD MAP so that you can focus on gorgeous colour and captivating textures in the painting process
• how to gain confidence at the beginning, middle and end of your process

How this 5 day challenge works:

• On Monday January 16, you will receive an email with the private link to the recorded video lessons demonstrating the photo mining method
• On Wednesday, Jan 18 and Friday, January 20 there will be Live Q&A sessions accessible via a zoom link where I will guide you through the challenge, encouraging you to dig deeper
• You will be invited to share your mining exercises in the Facebook group or via email, and I will choose 3 to highlight on each live session
• The Q&A sessions will be recorded and available to you if you until Sunday, January 22 if you cannot attend live  
• Monday & Tuesday all day, Wednesday before the Q&A,  Thursday and Friday before the Q&A are all work times, so that you will have time to work on the mining exercises
• you will be invited to a free private Facebook group for sharing, discussion and support, however participation in this is optional
