Maybe you started the year with a plan for your child's education, but things aren't going the way you hoped.
Maybe you're struggling to make your schedule work around your child's needs, your family's responsibilities, and the realities of everyday life.
Maybe you're wondering whether your child is learning enough, what education should look like for your child, or whether a different approach might work better for your family.
Or maybe you're not sure where to begin at all.
When your child needs significant support throughout the day, there can be a hundred things competing for your attention. It's easy to feel like you're falling behind—or that everyone else has figured out something you haven't.
But you don't have to figure it all out at once.
In the Fall Reset & Refocus Masterclass, we'll work through a simple process to help you recognize what's already happening, identify what matters most to your family right now, explore what's possible, and choose one meaningful next step.
You don't need a perfect plan. You don't need to recreate traditional school. And you don't need to do everything.
You just need to figure out what's next for YOUR family.
Sometimes it feels like everyone else knows what they're doing.
But maybe you're thinking:
“Am I doing enough?”
“Is my child falling behind?”
“What is education even supposed to look like for my child?”
"I thought I was ready for this...but it's not going the way I imagined."
Your child needs significant support throughout the day, and there are a hundred things competing for your attention.
Communication.
Supervision.
Daily living skills.
Appointments.
Meals.
Siblings.
Work.
Rest. (What's that??)
Family life.
So when you "decompress" online and see pictures of everyone else's "perfect" days, it's easy to end up feeling deflated instead!
I’m not going to hand you a giant checklist and tell you everything your child needs to be doing this year.
I’m not going to tell you that you need a new curriculum.
I’m not going to tell you how many hours you should spend at the table.
And I’m definitely not going to tell you that a successful educational day has to look like someone else’s.
Instead, we’re going to start with a much more important question:
Because the answer will be different for every family.
One family may need to focus on communication.
Another may need to create more opportunities for movement.
Another may need to build independence through everyday routines.
Another may need more connection and community.
Another may simply be in a season where survival and sustainability have to come before adding anything new.
There is no one right answer.
The goal is to figure out YOUR answer.
The GIFT Framework is the simple process we’ll use throughout the Masterclass to help you figure out what to do next.
Step outside the assumption that education has to look like traditional school. Whether your child learns at home, in a school, or through a combination of settings, you can explore what meaningful education looks like for YOUR child.
Look honestly at your child, your family, and your current season.
What is challenging you most?
Who needs the most support?
What does your family need right now?
Once you know what matters, we’ll explore what’s possible.
You’ll look at the things you’re already doing and brainstorm simple ways to build on them.
Then you’ll choose ONE priority and turn it into something concrete you can actually try.
Because you don’t need to know exactly what your child’s education will look like five years from now.
You need to know what you’re going to try next.
One of the most powerful parts of this process is realizing how much education is already happening in your ordinary day.
The conversations you have.
The books you read.
The errands you run.
The meals you prepare.
The skills your child practices.
The movement built into your day.
The opportunities for communication.
The experiences you have in your community.
The routines and habits you’re building.
The time you spend exploring your child’s interests.
The safe, unstructured time and rest that allow your child to regulate and engage with the world.
You may walk into this Masterclass thinking:
“I need to fix my child's education.”
And walk away thinking:
That shift matters.
Because we’re not starting from zero.
We’re starting from what is already working.
This isn’t a Masterclass where you sit quietly and take notes for two hours.
Bring your pen, the provided guide, and your thinking cap.
You’re going to WORK through the process.
We’ll start by letting go of the pressure to recreate traditional school - whether that is at home or in a private or public school setting.
You’ll learn how to look at education through a different lens.
We’ll look at what’s actually happening in your life right now.
You’ll consider your child’s needs, your family’s needs, and the season you’re currently in.
We’ll brainstorm what’s possible across five important areas or building blocks:
You’ll also identify the things you’re already doing.
You will NOT leave with a list of 25 things you need to start doing.
You’ll choose ONE priority.
The one that makes the most sense for your family right now.
We’ll turn that priority into a simple plan.
What will you try?
What might you stop or reduce?
When will you do it?
Who can support you?
How will you know whether it’s working?
Your plan doesn’t have to be perfect.
It’s an experiment.
You’ll learn how to treat what happens next as information rather than as proof that you failed.
Instead of focusing on everything you think you’re missing, you’ll learn to recognize the educational opportunities already woven into your life.
You’ll have a way to step back from all the possibilities and identify your family’s current priority.
You’ll explore practical ways to support learning, communication, movement, independence, health, connection, and engagement.
Instead of trying to do everything, you’ll choose the one thing that makes the most sense to focus on right now.
You’ll leave knowing what you’re going to try.
Not someday.
Not “when life calms down.”
A real next step you can take into your everyday life.
You may not have your entire educational journey figured out.
And that’s okay.
You’ll have something more useful:
That’s not what we’re doing here.
We’re going to help you build a direction that makes sense for YOUR child and YOUR family.
Here’s what I hope you remember when you leave this Masterclass:
You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going five years from now.
You don’t need the perfect curriculum.
You don’t need a beautiful schedule.
You don’t need to recreate school.
And you don’t need to do everything.
You need to understand where you are.
Identify what matters most.
Look at what’s possible.
Choose one thing.
And take the next step.
Then you can reassess.
And choose your next step again.
That’s the power of the GIFT Framework.

The GIFT Framework is about thinking differently about your child’s education and identifying meaningful next steps that fit your family.
Whether you’re homeschooling, navigating another educational setting, combining approaches, or still figuring out what path makes sense, the process can help you think through what’s possible.
The Masterclass is designed for families educating nonspeaking and unreliable-speaking children, particularly families exploring communication through letterboards and keyboards.
Absolutely not.
That’s why you’re coming.
You don’t need a plan.
You need a place to start.
No.
This isn’t a curriculum-selection Masterclass.
We’re going to focus on your child’s needs, your family’s reality, and how to determine your next step.
That’s actually one of the reasons I think you’ll benefit.
One of the first things we’ll do is identify what you’re already doing.
You may discover that you are doing much more than you realized.
That’s exactly what we’ll work through together.
The GIFT process is designed to help you move from “I don’t know what to do” to identifying one manageable next step.
Plan for up to 2 hours.
Bring your guide, a pen, and your thinking cap.
This call will be recorded and the replay will be emailed to all registered attendees!
No.
The purpose of this Masterclass is for you to leave with clarity and a concrete next step.
At the end, I’ll share how you can continue getting support if that’s something you’re interested in, but you do not need to purchase anything else to benefit from the Masterclass.
You don't need another list of everything you're supposed to be doing.
You need a way to recognize what's already happening, figure out what matters most, and choose a next step that works for your child and your real life.
Join us for the NOT-School Masterclass: Fall Reset & Refocus.
You don't have to figure it all out. Just start with what's next.

But Susan believes the most important qualities for educating a nonspeaker aren't a perfect curriculum or a teaching degree. They're curiosity, a willingness to learn and adjust, and a deep love for your child.
Susan and her youngest son, Carter, began spelling together in spring 2023. Since then, she's been passionate about helping families recognize their children's potential, explore what's possible, and find a path that works for their unique family.
