Walking with Grief

Losing someone close to our hearts can be such a painful experience.

With death comes grief which surrounds us every day, it’s something in some societies that we don’t like to touch on very much, and it can feel like an awkward conversation at times, with not knowing what to say, as each circumstance can be different yet the same.

We can see the signs of death in our seasons of Autumn and Winter. Grief surrounds us during this time as we witness the plants disappear and go underground, the trees having shed their leaves, the ground hard and dry.

If you looked at loss as the season, what seasons would you choose, I would choose Autumn, for me it would be the season to cry, and Winter would be the time to sit still in the waters of what Autumn brought.  To see your walk with grief as Winter, is to be in that time of contemplation, and reflection on the transition taking place in your life and those who are walking this path with you.  Know that you are never alone and you can use your community to help you journey through your grief.

Grief can be felt in situations like divorce, redundancy, surgery, a change within yourself, and in the loss of anything, physical or material.  There are many stages to it that you go through.  Even though you may be grieving at the same time as someone else, you may never be at the same stage as them.

Whichever form of loss you are feeling, know that we all experience loss in different ways, and at different stages that grief has to offer us. There is anger, guilt, depression, resentment, the why me, why them, what have I done to deserve this.

We are all on a journey in life and we don’t know where that journey will take us and why we experience what we do.

Since losing my father over five years ago, I found a deeper connection to what it means to grieve, the shock, anger, and resentment we feel when it greets us.  This is when I discovered the 5 stages of grief.

At some point in our lives, we will all take a walk with grief, it's a walk into unchartered waters, it will be a companion of ours whether we like it or not.  If we choose not to decide to walk with it as it has shown itself to us, we will experience that energy of resistance.

Deciding to walk with it, for who it is and what it has to offer, can start off as a harsh and arduous task.  Once we have adapted to the shock it has presented us and choose to accept it for what it is, the journey becomes a little easier.  It is a walk that you don't have to take alone.

One thing that I do know, is that flowers can help us tremendously, the tradition of having flowers for sympathy has truly taken on a new meaning for me since I began connecting with the energy of flowers and working with them for sympathy arrangements. It has shown me that having flowers in a ceremony for loss, and used as part of a ritual, can aid with healing. When I create and deliver flowers for customers for their loved one’s final goodbye, I see the silent joy it brings to their heart as it rises within them, bringing an ever so gentle smile to their face.

Flowers play a part in healing if we are open to receiving it,  and that is why I  invite the healing Power of Flowers into my Circles.

Using flowers to help aid you through transitions is what I love to do, they not only bring a source of comfort to you but add to the healing process you are going through.

When you grieve your life is on pause for a short while, during this pause you may not see the beauty and healing that nature has to offer you, you are surrounded in a cloud of darkness, they is a massive hole in your heart and a sense of emptiness. You may be wondering around with the sensation of feeling lost. The one most prominent feeling that can be felt at this stage is that feeling of numbness, a void, which shuts down all your senses.

Rest assured your senses will return.  You'll find when your senses return you may be it that space of deciding to be open to receiving and will now begin to settle in with taking that walk with grief.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be done alone there are always people around you that can walk it with you.

Healing can also come from being with others, when you are in a vulnerable place and feeling that sense of instability, just by being in the company of other people going through the same thing as you can bring comfort during your walk with grief.

Gathering in Circle is one way to strengthen you for when you tend to your hours of solitude. It's the knowing that you are not alone in your journey.

Being in Circle is being in a group, and held by others in a form of community, it's people gathering with the same energy, who are looking for time out, space to be still in, to speak, to be present, to understand they are not alone.  It's a holding space for your inner thoughts in the presence of others.

Circle will remind you there is no need to hurry or force things to happen, and that everything for you will unfold in perfect timing, bringing new light to the shadows that have crept into your world. It is space to be witnessed without judgement.

There are eight places available for this Circle, Walking with Grief, in it we will reflect gently on loss, and connect more with where we are at in our loss. Your loss can be recent, it can be years old, this space will be held for you to reflect on anything that comes up for you.

We will inhale the energy of receptivity and exhale what needs to be released. There will be no judgement on what is chosen to be set free, no advice or counselling just a space to hold your vulnerability and and instability.

If you're feeling that void, the sensation of feeling lost, or the sense that people may be fed up of hearing you say the same things about your loss, then join me and the others who will be gathered together to spend some mindful moments with grief as you navigate the road you are on.
This Circle is for you if you are on a journey with grief not matter if it's new or old, or you feel you want to tap into:

Forgiveness,
Acceptance,
Fill up a void, or
Just to be held during your moments
of vulnerability and instability.

I will guide you on a short meditation which will take you to a place to help resolve any issues of anger or resentment with love and compassion, leaning into forgiveness as we gently soften the heart to restore love and peace.  Together we will help let go of any restrictions that are holding us, and let the healing that is received take us where it needs to go. It may be felt in any part of your body, the energy present will know where it needs to go and what you need to feel in that moment.

We will also be connecting to the healing energy of the flower accompanying this Grief Circle which is the Eucalyptus (shown in the second image), it's a flower that has the energy to help you be open to receiving.  It lets you know that you can be awarded for doing things alone but you feel less lonely and have half the struggle when you do it with others.
