SafeSeas is a network of researchers who investigate maritime security. Our focus is on threats to national, economic, environmental and human security at sea, as well as ‘blue crimes’ in all their forms. SafeSeas produces original research, commentary and guidance for policy makers and practitioners on these themes. We are particularly interested in issues of security governance, law enforcement, capacity building and regional cooperation in the maritime environment.
Current SafeSeas research projects are focused on maritime security in West Africa, the Western Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific region and the waters of the United Kingdom.
