‘China Weeks 2021, When Culture and Tourism Blend’ is presented by the China National Tourist Office in London. This two-month festival of culture, tourism and more celebrates the rich, fertile ground between culture and tourism, and explores how and where these fields combine and intersect to enrich human experience and deepen ties between peoples.

Over the course of May and June 2021, CNTO London and its partners across culture and tourism will be sharing a fascinating programme of online content, to bring you closer to Chinese culture AND Chinese tourism. From arts and music, to food and drink, to festivals, to sport, and beyond, our ‘When Culture and Tourism Blend’ programme reveals and revels in the crucial, inextricable link between culture and tourism, and the differences and similarities that make the pursuit of travel and cultural engagement so rewarding.

China Tourism and Culture Weeks

07/06 – 30/06

Discover fascinating strands of Chinese tourism and culture in these presentations of a variety of traditional arts, crafts, food and stunning scenery. 

Picturesque natural scenery and rich folk customs combine in the Beautiful Countryside and Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection video exhibition.

Learn about the intricate techniques and history behind several styles of clay art in the Yunnan Pottery Microclass video series.

Traditional crafts, kept alive by master craftsmen, are explored in the Creativeness of Craftsmanship video series.

Exquisite flavours and traditional dishes are explored in the two A Taste of China series, in capital Beijing, and in five western China cities in Journey of Xinjiang Cuisine.

You've never seen theatre like this before! Shanshui Yijing Chinese Outstanding Tourism Performing Arts presents the series: Arts, Culture and Nature: The best of Art Shows for Tourism of China, with astonishing and innovative performances retelling ancient stories using modern technology and inventive design.

The setting for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is explored in the Beautiful China - Ice and Snow Tour video series, while winter culture comes to live in the interactive experience.

China-UK International Music Festival

01/05 - 30/05

Founded in 2018, the China-UK International Music Festival (CUIMF) combines music and education to create an enriching, multi-dimensional cultural exchange programme that perfectly befits our 'When Culture and Tourism Blend' programme. The deep ties between Chinese and UK culture are celebrated with performances, academic exchanges and more with 10 unique events to enjoy between 1st - 30th May.

Cambridge China Center: 'This is China' 

05/05 - 20/06

The Cambridge China Centre is a supporter and facilitator of UK/China relations, from business to cultural exchange. During 'When Culture and Tourism Blend' Cambridge China Centre are hosting a series of Zoom events dedicated to the cultural cornerstone of food and drink:

- 'This is China' Foodtalks are all about Chinese cuisine, and take place across four dates in May: 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th.

- 'This is China' Winetalks will bring you up to speed with China's burgeoning wine scene, from its history to the key producing areas, on June 13th and June 20th.

China Hour's China Culture Programme

06/05 - 12/06

China Hour's varied Chinese cultural content on Sky Channel 191 is a staple of UK/China cultural exchange, and this will be no different during our 'When Culture and Tourism Blend' programme. Between May and June you'll be able to delve deeper than before into Chinese cuisine with a mix of fascinating foodie features, and discover the history and development of tea in China, which of course is one of China and the UK's shared cultural passions.

Cultural Perspectives: A Joint Concert Between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & China NCPA Orchestra

22/05 - 05/06

Premiering on Saturday 22nd May at 7:30pm, this special collaboration between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the China National Centre for the Performing Arts is a celebration of the bond between the UK and China, with cultural exchange at the heart of this bond.

The programme includes performances of Johannes Brahms, Maurice Ravel, Qigang Chen and Dani Howard, which will be shared between the two orchestras to reflect the collaborative nature of this joyous musical fusion.

Chinese Cookalong Live

27/06, 6PM

On Sunday 27th June, we are finishing our food exploration with a flourish as we co-host 'Chinese Cookalong Live' with the Changsha Culture Tourism Radio and Television Bureau and Make it China. Participants will discover more about Changsha, the cultural, vibrant, spice-loving capital city of Hunan Province, before being guided step by step through an authentic speciality dish by our friends and partners at Make it China.
