We are thrilled to be launching WIMSA's 2021 Online Mentoring Programme for Young Professionals! 

We have talked and talked and we are now ready to take action. We are launching our 2021 online mentoring programme for young professional South African women in mining. 

If you are a recent graduate or have been in employment for up to 10 years in the mining industry (or in a company that services the mining industry, then we are inviting you to apply to be one of 40 young professional women to participate in our group mentoring programme in 2021.

Our first session is scheduled for 3 March 2021.

Do you qualify?

  • Must be either employed in the first 10 years of her mining-related career (letter of support from employer to be provided), or currently be completing her final year of a mining-related degree (proof of student registration to be supplied). 
  • 300-word (maximum) essay motivating the primary outcome she would like from her participation in the programme as well as what she intends to contribute to the mentoring programme.
  • 2-page (maximum) CV highlighting involvement in extra-curricular activities (ie non-academic activities that demonstrate involvement in something bigger than themselves).
  • Confirmation that will attend the monthly webinars and actively engage in the LinkedIn group in between webinars for the duration of the 10-month programme.
  • Confirmation that has access to a stable internet connection, a computer/laptop or wifi-enabled device and a profile on LinkedIn (URL to be supplied with application).
  • Must be a registered member of WIMSA.
  • Must supply a recommendation from line function manager/HR or lecturer/Dean of Department.
  • Confirmation that will pay the R500 commitment fee on selection as a successful applicant.

Group discussions and guidance where you get to be mentored by industry professionals as well as mentor and be mentored by your peers in breakaway groups.

Monthly online webinars

Themed monthly online webinars to assist you to take control of your career and manage the business of Being You Pty Ltd!

Informal online interactions and discussions

Networking using online platforms such as LinkedIn to create and engage in  relevant and thought leadership discussions

Mentoring Lead

Briony Liber

Briony works with mission-driven STEM professionals largely in the mining industry to help them show up in their careers and businesses with curiosity, creativity, compassion and courage. 

Her close to 20 years experience as a consultant in the mining industry prior to moving into coaching, positions her well to understand the types of career challenges facing women in the mining industry.

Raksha Naidoo

Raksha is a BSc graduate and Managing Director of AMIS. She is also the Deputy Chair for Women in Mining South Africa. She is passionate about people, and views teamwork, consultation and communication as the key pillars to success. She is an advocate for the empowerment and upliftment of young girls and women and strives to create a pathway to success for women in the mining industry

Yusavia Naidoo

Yusavia is a mining industry professional with a background in mineral resource management (Geosciences and Mining Engineering) and an MBA. She is passionate about creating sustainable value for the industry through technological, digital and social transformation, as well as the enhancement of women in mining.
