    Project Updates

    Waikerie Jetty Replacement Project

It has recently been announced that District Council of Loxton Waikerie have been successful in receiving a grant under the Government's 'Preparing Australian Communities Program' for 'Riverland Flood Disaster Risk Reduction Project – Waikerie Jetty Replacement.'

The Waikerie Jetty replacement project will not only bring another enjoyable facility to the riverfront, but it will also improve the long-term resilience of the community to natural flood hazards, minimising the time and cost to recovery as it will be resilient to damage from flood and will still be functional if flooding occurs.

This project will be a wonderful addition to the already fantastic upgrades to the Waikerie Riverfront.

    Waikerie Bike Pump Track

Further developments on the Waikerie Riverfront include a brand-new bike pump track, designed and built by Trailscapes Pty Ltd.

Known for their bike tracks all over Australia, including Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and overseas in Bali, Trailscapes pride themselves on never creating the same track twice, and designing to suit the environment.

The combined pump track and skills park facility provides a perfect setting for cycling enthusiasts and features a shaded area for gathering and resting. The project has been recently completed and is now ready for use, located next to the Holiday Park.

    Community Centre Build

The District Council of Loxton Waikerie received $1.2 million of Federal Government Funding to build a community centre for the Loxton Retirement Village and wider community.

The new facility will have the capacity to service the residents and will include amenities such as a multi function room, meeting/consult room, office, semi commercial kitchen, toilets, cinema, storage rooms, gym and out door entertaining area.

The facility is currently under construction and the project is expected to be complete by June 2022.

    Stormwater Project - Hart Lagoon

The $2.6 million project involves the construction of a dam/wetland to catch the town’s stormwater, which will then be treated by a filtration/pump system and deliver the water to the newly landscaped areas along the Waikerie Riverfront.

The purpose of the project is to reduce Council’s reliance on the River Murray for irrigation and make effective reuse of stormwater. The stormwater project will also incorporate a walking trail around the dam wall which will link into the Hart Lagoon walking trail.

This project is predicted to accelerate job creation, improve water access and security, promote regional economic growth and sustainability, and build resilience to drought and a changing climate.

This project is in a planning phase and aims to be completed by the end of 2023.

    Waikerie Riverfront Development

Approximately $2 million has been spent redeveloping the Waikerie Riverfront. Stages 1 and 2 of the project have been completed which includes new paths, turf, picnic areas, seating, car parking, landscaping and shelters which stretch from Boat Ramp No. 2 to the Waikerie Ferry. This also includes a Bike Pump Track which has been recently completed.

Excellent work has been done on stage 3 already, the works included the construction of a new kerb and two-metre-wide paved footpath along Leonard Norman Drive from the ferry to the houseboat pump station.
