'Council will include a Zoom option for residents to be able hear what is Council’s 2022/23 Draft Annual Business Plan where people can ask questions and have direct answers from the Council and I encourage residents to join us'.
- David Beaton
The SANFL match to honour the late Russell Ebert in Loxton on Sunday, May 22, saw an incredible turnout and Council is very proud of the amazing response from the community.
Port Adelaide Football Club walked away with a with a 24-point victory and Russell Ebert Trophy, after a seriously exciting game against West Adelaide Football Club.
The results were 15.15 (105) to 12.9 (81), and a very entertained crowd.
The curtain raiser game between Loxton Football Club and Waikerie Magpies Football Club saw Loxton win the victory, with results of 11.10 (76) to Waikerie 8.5 (53).
Ebert's family were in attendance and shared a special moment with the winning team at the end of the game.
Council would like to thank everyone involved for making this day such a wonderful tribute to our very own local legend.
The Russell Ebert Tribute SANFL Match was supported by the Australian Government under the Murray–Darling Basin Economic Development Program.
Port Magpies Captain, Cameron Sutcliffe, said that the opportunity to 'play a game and hopefully honour his legacy' was a 'very special opportunity' for the team.

Council are very pleased to report that Loxton’s Tasting Australia event, A Feast of the Riverland – Let the Good Times Flow, went exceptionally well and was a night to remember for all those in attendance.
The event was completely sold out with 300 people in attendance. The feast for the ages was prepared by world renowned chefs Duncan Welgemoed (Africola) and Sydney legend Mark Best (Marque, Netflix’s The Final Table). The culinary masters gave their guests a diverse and daring menu worth talking about for a lifetime, made entirely of our region's best produce.
Welgemoed and Best came out to host a Q and A at the end of the night to answer questions from guests about food preparation and sustainable eating, with many laughs in between.
The event surrounded the concept of supporting local, so every component of the menu was sourced from over 30 local producers and winemakers, right down to the salt and olive oil. The meat was prepared over fire in repurposed water tanks and was cooked to perfection.
The chefs and some of Welgemoed’s Africola team guided our local catering staff, and a number of Loxton High School students, who Council's Economic Development Advisor, Ella Winnall, says performed ‘exceptionally well, especially considering how under the pump we were’. The service was pulled off perfectly.
Winnall has said of the event that this was proof that the demand in the Riverland for great dining experiences is there, and people will attend if they have the option.

Ramco Hall Flooring
Ramco Hall has had an upgrade to its flooring!
The floor was identified by local residents and community members as requiring an upgrade.
Council allocated funds to sand back and seal the existing flooring, providing a refreshed surface for all users.
The upgrade has been completed and is looking great.
Sensory Track
This new track at the Waikerie Riverfront (adjacent to the new bike pump track) is designed especially for a sensory experience.
The track features various textured surfaces for those using mobility assistance devices, including non slip timber planks, exposed pebble/rock aggregate surface and a series of shallow concrete mounds.
This is another one of Council's latest contributions towards the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.
Loxton Retirement Village
Things are getting very busy at the Retirement Village build site! Civil works have commenced to add 8 more units, and the Community Centre is well underway (pictured above).
Concreters are on site to complete garden bed edging, while a number of installations have been completed including external linings, internal door frames and doors, roller shutters, floor coverings, internal blinds, and more.
The kitchen and street light installation will commence in the final week of may and landscaping is already underway.
Further updates in next months newsletter.
